Meet the founders of Beacon PBM

My name is Kate Burton and this is my husband, Dave Agnew. We’ve lived in Nelson since 1987, raising our family and developing our careers. Dave ran the Nelson Training Centre for 35 years and studied and taught Seido karate on the side. My career was in modern dance as both performer and instructor.

We’ve always enjoyed movement and leading active lives.

We founded Pilates Nelson in 2013, based on the philosophy of “movement for life”. We’re committed to helping people stay strong, flexible and active, whatever their age or level of physical ability.
  • How red light therapy helped Kate

Supporting other people is one thing; when your own body starts throwing up age- and hormone-related aches, pains and stiffness it’s quite another. Turning 50 was a milestone for me. After decades of being very physically active with minimal recovery time, suddenly I began to hurt. It took longer to bounce back after exercise. It felt like the body that had always served me so well was letting me down.

After experiencing some red light therapy sessions, I found a marked improvement in pain relief and recovery time. I also noticed a boost to my overall wellbeing.

Our mission

Bringing red light therapy to Nelson

We knew this was a discovery we had to share. So to maintain our own personal and professional well-being, offer our pilates students an increased wellness opportunity, and provide natural health support to the wider community, we’ve introduced red light therapy to the Top of the South.

A beacon is a light in the darkness. It draws people to it, with the promise of warmth and safety. “PBM” stands for “photobiomodulation”, another name for red light therapy. Beacon PBM offers a safe, non-invasive and effective therapy that supports the body to do what it’s designed to do, for longer. It complements the wellness model we promote at Pilates Nelson.

We were all made to move

But sometimes we need a bit of help to get going. Spring into action today by booking a session!
